PIJAC Welcomes Director of Government Affairs

Washington, D.C. – The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) is pleased to announce Robert Likins as the new Director of Government Affairs. “We are excited to have Bob join PIJAC, he brings an incredible work ethic along with the perspective of a lifelong pet owner who has had to deal with widely varying pet legislation as he moved from duty station to duty station while in the military,” stated Ken Oh, Chairman of PIJAC

“Pet ownership has been such a rewarding part of my life that I am excited to have the opportunity to work with PIJAC to safeguard that opportunity for everyone.  With 82.5 million American families owning a pet of some type, it is important to ensure that our available choices in pets continue to be as diverse as we are” said Mr. Likins.

Mr. Likins comes to PIJAC fresh from his retirement from the United States Army after over 24 years of distinguished service.  Most recently he served as Legislative Liaison in the US Army Office of the Chief of Legislative Liaison in Washington, DC.  While there, Bob’s work included strategic planning for the Army’s interaction with Congress as well as managing the $1.6B Soldier Systems portfolio.  He facilitated Congressional oversight of these programs by interacting with industry representatives, Members of Congress and Congressional staff.

Prior to that he served as a Congressional Fellow in the Offices of Representative Mac Thornberry of Texas and former Representative Jane Harman of California. As a Defense Fellow his duties included advising both these Members of Congress on national security, defense and international relations issues, responding to constituent inquiries, meeting with businesses, veterans’ organizations and government offices regarding issues and legislation of interest to constituents and preparing speeches, talking points and drafting legislation.

“Bob’s knowledge and experience permit him to speak with authority whether he’s in Washington, D.C. or in communities across the country.   He brings new ideas and a fresh perspective to PIJAC and we look forward to working with him for years to come” Chairman Ken Oh concluded.

Animals are a big part of his life too, his family includes two Great Danes, one cat and a myriad of marine and freshwater fish.  He also volunteers with a local Great Dane rescue and a horse rehabilitation rescue.

Bob Likins began working for PIJAC on August 4, 2014.
