FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) is proud to announce that Deputy Director of Government Affairs Joshua Jones has been honored as one of Pet Age Magazine’s “40 Under 40” for 2017.
Jones directs PIJAC’s herp legislative, regulatory, education, and engagement efforts, and is the staff liaison to PIJAC’s Herp Committee. He also coordinates PIJAC’s information technology and was PIJAC’s point person leading up to the Las Vegas, Nevada City Council’s recent decision to repeal a pet sale ban.
“It’s been an absolute joy to best represent everyone who works so hard on behalf of companion animals and pet owners,” said Jones. “I’m honored by Pet Age Magazine placing me in this list of influential young leaders in our industry.”
“In five years with PIJAC, Josh has distinguished himself as someone who cares greatly about those we represent,” said PIJAC President Mike Bober, who last year received the “40 Under 40” honor from Pet Age Magazine. “He is the person most responsible for PIJAC’s much improved relationship with herp professionals and hobbyists in recent years. His commitment to the professionals and hobbyists in the herp trade – and, of course, the animals themselves – comes across in both his day-to-day work and his travel to many shows each year.”
“Last month, Las Vegas repealed its ill-advised ban on the retailer sales of cats, dogs, and potbellied pigs not sourced from shelters or rescues,” said PIJAC Vice President of Government Affairs Robert Likins. “Josh was instrumental in this victory. He made several trips to Las Vegas in the five weeks prior to the vote, set up meetings between lawmakers and a Las Vegas store, and was in regular communication with City Council staff for months.”
Jones, the owner of two geckos, a French bulldog, a Boston Terrier, and freshwater fish, told Pet Age Magazine that “the passion and dedication” of pet professionals “to their businesses and to animal welfare” is his favorite part of the industry.
Since 1970, the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) has protected pets, pet owners and the pet industry – promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare, fostering environmental stewardship, and ensuring the availability of pets. PIJAC members include retailers, companion animal suppliers, manufacturers, wholesale distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, pet hobbyists, and other trade organizations.
