Washington, D.C.–On Tuesday, August 21, 2012 the Personnel and Animal Welfare Committee of the City of Los Angeles met to discuss Council File 11 - 0754, a city ordinance to ban the sale of all commercially bred dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores in the City of Los Angeles. The Council voted to adopt the ban which takes effect in six months. Eleven pet stores are affected by the ban putting approximately 60 people out of work.
