Amends Title 22 (Agriculture & Domestic Animals), Chapter 435 (Dogs and Other Companion Animals; Kennels & Pet Shops), Section 332 (Impoundment and disposition of roaming, injured or mistreated animals/Authority to spay or neuter unclaimed dog/Liability for provision of veterinary care to injured, sick or diseased impounded animal) and Section 338 (Licensing of dogs/Fees/Rabies certificate/Exemptions) of CT General Statutes to: 1) Increase the fee paid by anyone purchasing a dog as a pet to a municipal animal shelter; 2) to also require the payment of such fee for anyone purchasing a cat or other domestic animal; and 3) to also require that a license be procured for such cat or other domestic animal.

The Stamford City Board of Representatives therefore resolves and strongly urges by this Resolution hereby that the Connecticut General Assembly either enact a statewide law that prohibits the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores or a clarifying provision stating that municipalities have the authority to regulate pet stores in a manner that is more restrictive than state law.
