2017 Legislative Session Overview - New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Legislature adjourned its 2017 legislative session on June 22, 2017.

7 pet industry-related bills were introduced, 3 of which were considered priority by PIJAC.

Final Disposition of Priority Legislation:




HB 2

Repeals, replaces and renumbers Title XL (Agriculture, Horticulture & Animal Husbandry), Chapter 437 (Sale of Pets and Disposition of Unclaimed Animals), Sections 1-13a of NH Statutes which establishes standards for the transfer of animals and birds.


HB 290

Amends Title XL (Agriculture, Horticulture & Animal Husbandry), Chapter 436 (Diseases of Domestic Animals), Section 106 (Handling of Dogs, Cats, and Ferrets Bitten by Rabid Animals) to reflect quarantine changes made by the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians to the Compendium of Animal Rabies Prevention and Control.


HB 594

Amends Title LXII (Criminal Code) of New Hampshire Statutes by adding a new Chapter 651-G (Animal Cruelty Registry) to establish a registry of persons convicted of animal cruelty.
