2017 Legislative Session Overview - Nevada

The Nevada Legislature adjourned its 2017 legislative session on June 5, 2017.

7 pet industry-related bills were introduced, 3 of which were considered priority by PIJAC.

Final Disposition of Priority Legislation:




AB 238

Amends Title 50 (Animals) of Nevada Revised Statutes to authorize counties to enact certain ordinances relating to the importation, possession, sale, transfer and breeding of dangerous wild animals.


SB 371

Amends Chapter 574 (Cruelty to Animals), Section 055 (Taking possession of animal being treated cruelly; notice to owner; lien for cost of care) of Nevada Revised Statutes relating to the duration of certain liens for the reasonable cost of care and shelter furnished to an animal which has been treated cruelly.


SB 405

Amends Chapter 176 (Judgment & Execution) and Chapter 574 (Cruelty to Animals), Sections 356 (Prohibited Acts) and 510 (Knowingly selling dog or cat with condition requiring immediate treatment prohibited) of Nevada Revised Statutes to establish a statewide Animal Abuser Registry.
