2017 Legislative Session Overview - Montana

The Montana Legislature adjourned its 2017 legislative session on April 28, 2017.

5 pet industry-related bills were introduced, 3 of which were considered priority by PIJAC.

Final Disposition of Priority Legislation:




HB 130

Amends Title 80, Chapter 9 (Agriculture: Commercial Feeds) of Montana Code to revise commercial feed inspection fee and reporting requirements.


HB 570

Amends Montana Code Annotated by adding a new section, cited as the "Montana Commercial Pet Protection Act", which would provide for the regulation of commercial dog and cat breeders.


HB 582

Establishes the "Montana Commercial Pet Breeders Act" to license and regulate commercial pet breeder facilities and to create the Montana Commercial Pet Breeder State Special Revenue Account.
