2017 Legislative Session Overview - Mississippi

The Mississippi Legislature adjourned its 2017 legislative session on March 29, 2017.

Final Disposition of Priority Legislation:




HB 1

Amends Title 49 (Conservation & Ecology), Chapter 8 (Importation, Sale and Possession of Inherently Dangerous Animals) of Mississippi Code to classify poisonous or venomous snakes as inherently dangerous to humans.


SB 2296

Amends Title 69 (Agriculture, Horticulture & Animals), Chapter 1 (Agriculture & Commerce Department), Section 13 (Duties of Commissioner) of Mississippi Code by creating a license requirement to operate as a pet dealer or to operate a kennel, stable or animal shelter.
