2017 Legislative Session Overview - Louisiana

The Louisiana Legislature adjourned its 2017 legislative session on June 8, 2017.

Final Disposition of Priority Legislation:




HB 466

Amends Title 3 (Agriculture & Forestry), Sections 2364 (Louisiana Animal Welfare Commission) and 2365 (Louisiana Pet Registry) of Louisiana Revised Statutes to establish a Louisiana Animal Control Task Force within the Louisiana Department of Agriculture to ensure and promote the proper treatment and well-being of animals.


HB 593

Amends Title 3 (Agriculture & Forestry), Section 2358 (Regulation of Turtles) of Louisiana Revised Statutes to require the Commissioner to adopt rules regarding the breeding, disposal, raising, identification, inspection, licensing, monitoring, sanitizing, shipping or transporting, testing and quarantine of farm-raised turtles or turtle eggs.


SB 64

Amends Part V (Minimum Standards for Animal Shelters) of Louisiana Revised Statutes to further provide for animal shelter operating procedures, training requirements and disposition.
