The Pet Effect Companies

Absolutely Fish. Absolutely Fish has understood from the beginning that what a company stands for is as important as what it sells. Securing a better world for fish through human understanding illustrates their mission of education and conservation. Their highly trained staff educates aquarists, connects pet owners of all ages to aquatic animals, and brings an awareness of conservation issues of our oceans and waterways to the forefront. In addition to their education and conservation efforts, Absolutely Fish works with two animal shelters in Manhattan, taking in unwanted fish left on their doorstep or in the streets.

Animart Pet. Animart Pet, Inc. is a family owned business devoted to pets and their owners. Our Beaver Dam and Madison, WI locations rescued and found homes for 256 cats and 122 dogs in 2012. Our rescue efforts also extend to small/exotic animals like hamsters, ferrets, snakes, birds and even fish. We support area animal shelters and rescues to help them raise funds and supplies. With local veterinary schools as our partners, we work to promote pet health and education. Animart is proud to help fund the K9 Unit of the Madison Police Department as the lifetime sponsor of K9 Officer Martie.

Cat Fanciers’ Association. Cat Fanciers’ Association, Inc ® (CFA) was founded in 1906 as a not-for-profit association of member clubs. CFA’s mission in part, is to enhance the well-being of ALL cats. In 1968 CFA founded Winn Feline Foundation to advance veterinary knowledge in all areas of feline health. Grants totaling over $4 million have been awarded for scientific studies. CFA hosts indoor adoption events, clubs support local shelters/rescues to humanely reduce homeless and feral cat populations, and to encourage voluntary neuter/spay of pet cats. CFA provides educational speakers on diverse topics at Pet Expo, shelters and teaches feline agility to shelter caregivers to better highlight cats personalities to increase adoptions. CFA Food Pantry established in 2006 has distributed thousands of pounds of pet food to people who find themselves in urgent need. Animal Welfare continues to be a priority with three full time individuals and numerous volunteers working against proposed negative legislation across the county.

Central Garden & Pet. Central Garden & Pet helps pets and pet parents alike with trusted brands like Nylabone, Zilla, Four Paws, Aqueon, Kaytee, Adams, Biospot and AvoDerm. But we go beyond just making great products, Central is the proud support of many local and national pet charities and organizations. With Dogs4Diabetics, Central trains and provides medical alert assistance dogs. The Kaytee Avian foundation provides grants for protecting the natural habitat of many endangered birds. We also support and fund many organizations such as HABRI which is researching the positive bonds between humans and animals.

Coastal Pet Products.  The quality leader in the pet industry, Coastal Pet Products of Alliance, Ohio has been manufacturing and distributing quality guaranteed products and providing exceptional customer service since 1968. Dedicated to raising awareness for pet rescue, Coastal Pet annually supports hundreds of organizations that save pets and find them forever homes. Coastal is also committed to supporting the Morris Animal Foundation in its goal of improving the quality of life for animals. A portion of the proceeds from its Pet Attire® Styles pattern of collars, leashes and harnesses, developed specifically for MAF, is donated to fund research initiatives and veterinary scholarships.

Dogswell.Dogswell, a company that creates low glycemic, super premium pet food and treats, is the sole food supplier for The Friends of Animals Foundation, donating more than 138,000 food bowls to this Los Angeles shelter in 2012. In addition, Dogswell donated 66,000 food bowls to the Karma Rescue shelter in Los Angeles. In March 2013, Dogswell ran a Facebook campaign and was able to donate 80,000 food bowls to shelter dogs. This summer, they did a similar campaign called “Paw it Forward” and donated 25,000 bowls. To help with the Oklahoma Tornado relief efforts, the pet food company shipped food to help the victims’ pets affected by the disaster. Dogswell has also donated 2,200 bowls to help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Espree Animal Products. Espree Animal Products partners with the SPCA of Texas in Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin Pets Alive (Austin, Texas) to ensure that rescued pets receive exceptional bathing and grooming care. As part of the partnership, Espree donates all of the shampoo and conditioning products needed to bathe more than 13,000 animals housed at the two SPCA of Texas animal care centers and the Austin Pets Alive facility each year. Helping these organizations effectively groom the animals enhances the adoption process for prospective pet parents!

Feathered Friends Parrot Adoption Services. Feathered Friends Parrot Adoption Services, Inc., located in Maspeth, NY, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit parrot adoption/rescue organization and sanctuary. We are the only such organization dedicated to the care and re-homing of all Psittacine species in New York City, and our service area includes the region in a 75-mile radius of our location.

flexi USA. flexi USA recently hosted our 2nd Annual My Furry Valentine Super Adoption Event. We gather hundreds of adoptable animals from dozens of local rescues at our distribution facility in West Chester, Ohio. We created the event to help reduce the number of homeless pets that are euthanized in the Greater Cincinnati area each year. flexi USA is committed to raising awareness of the adoptable pets and help them find loving homes. This year, 507 homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and rats became beloved pets because of My Furry Valentine! Next year's event is already set for February 15th & 16th.

Furball Critters.Furball Critters has been breeding fancy hamsters and rats for more than 17 years. In addition to being a breeder, Furball Critters also rescues pet rats and hamsters when their owners can no longer care for them. We are proud to be able to help these pets and find their caring, forever homes.

Garmon Corp./NaturVet. In February 2006, Scott Garmon and Traci Garmon realized their vision of how the Garmon Corp./NaturVet could do more to assist pets in need. With our 501(c)(3) non-profit status, we went to work! We have sponsored educational field trips to local Humane Societies for 7,000 local 4th & 5th Graders to learn about pet adoption, spay/neuter, and pet care. We also support local Humane Societies, rescue groups, and assistance dog groups with donations. Our primary annual fund raiser is the Fur Ball Golf Tournament. Good Bird Inc.Founder Barbara Heidenreich’s goal is to leave a legacy of kindness to animals. Her training methodologies help solve pet behavior problems and foster the human-animal bond. Strong bonds with companion animals can lead to conservation of wild counterparts. Barbara donates her time to two parrot conservation organizations. Barbara trained the ambassador bird for the Kakapo Recovery Program and raised the ambassador bird for the Bird Endowment , raising awareness and funding for each program.

Grizzly Pet Products. Grizzly Pet Products LLC is excited about the contributions we make to charitable organizations devoted to improving the lives of pets. Pets taken in by rescues can be nutrient deficient due to lack of proper nutrition. These pets benefit greatly from the donation of our Grizzly Salmon Oil. In addition to this we regularly donate product to silent auctions. The auctions help rescue groups maintain the day-to-day operating cost of keeping their doors open. Since 2007 Grizzly Pet Products has donated over $53,000 of product helping at least 60 different rescue groups a year.

Hagen.As a responsible family-owned company, Rolf C. Hagen Inc. supports animal welfare, conservation and educational groups of all types, with product contributions and monetary donations topping $1 million in recent years. In 2011, Hagen made headlines by helping feed more than 500 dogs over the course of several months after they were seized from the largest animal cruelty case in North American history. Today, Hagen and its consumer brands (Exo Terra, Fluval, Nutrience, Catit, Living World) continue to support respected organizations such as the World Parrot Trust and International Reptile Conservation Foundation, as well as provide food and essential items to dozens of grassroots-level rescue groups across the country and abroad. These are just a few examples of Hagen’s ongoing commitment to improve the lives of animals and those who care for them.

HORN. HORN’s Animal Wellness Business Unit is not just an ingredient distributor to the pet space, but a team of people who are truly dedicated and passionate about pets and animals and the products they come in contact with on a daily basis. Besides our own pets that are adopted from shelters and rescue groups, HORN donates thousands of dollars’ worth of products, cash and pet food each year to a number of local shelters. In addition, a shelter is selected every year and we donate a day of service as a team. We do everything from cleaning to caring for animals. We view this as an integral part of our involvement in our industry and a great team-building activity for our sales force. Our team gets a great sense of satisfaction in being able to give back to our pet community.

The Human Animal Bond Research Initiative. The Human Animal Bond Research Initiative (HABRI) is a national, non-profit foundation dedicated to promoting the positive role animals play in the health and well-being of people, families and communities. HABRI, in partnership with Purdue University, created the comprehensive online human-animal bond research center, HABRI Central, which houses more than 16,000 entries solidifying the numerous ways animals positively affect humans and our health. To date, the seven strongest areas of research include; childhood allergies and immunity, Alzheimer’s/dementia, depression, autism, cardiovascular disease, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and neurological disorders. House of Reptiles. In addition to taking in unwanted reptiles and amphibians whenever space permits, the House of Reptiles also makes a yearly monetary donation of around $750 to a different reptile rescue/rehabilitation organization throughout the world. Previous recipients have included The Turtle Hospital, the International Reptile Conservation Foundation, the International Iguana Foundation, Amphibian Ark and The Venom Project. Although not animal related, we also make an annual donation of $500 to our local children's hospital, Doenbecher Children's Hospital here in Portland, Oregon.

Hunte Corporation.  The Hunte Corporation cares deeply about animal welfare and ensuring families receive happy, healthy puppies. This commitment to compassion and companionship is demonstrated in many forms, including the Hunte Corporation’s annual Breeder Educational Conference and Hunte’s extensive database to prevent genetic defects in puppies. By teaching the most advanced animal husbandry, health, nutritional, and socialization programs in the industry as well as maintaining the database developed by a veterinary staff dedicated to the highest standards of care and concern for every puppy, the Hunte Corporation is proud to enhance the lives of pets.

Move America Forward. Move America Forward (MAF) is a nonprofit charity founded in 2004 to support the brave men and women of our Armed Forces by sending personalized care packages to the front lines. Since 2010, MAF has been supporting MILITARY WORKING DOGS and their handlers currently serving overseas by sending specialized K-9 Care Packages. MAF sends these special care packages full of great items including paw protectors, eye-protecting goggles, and dog treats keep our 4 legged soldiers happy, safe, and injury free. We recognize and honor the Military Working Dog as an essential part of the team that we must remember.

Nestlé Purina. Nestlé Purina PetCare promotes responsible pet care, humane education, community involvement and the positive bond between people and their pets, under the banner, “Your Pet, Our Passion.” Each year, Nestlé Purina donates more than $13 million in pet food and litter, to help with the care and adoption of more than 2.2 million pets in animal welfare organizations nationwide. Nestlé Purina programs such as Pets for People, Rally to Rescue and Purina ONE Shelter Network have benefited millions of dogs and cats. We extend our impact even further through partnerships with Adopt-a-pet.com, Pet Partners, the St. Louis Pet Lover Coalition, and through our collaboration with key retailers on adoption programs and animal welfare efforts. Nestlé Purina’s North American headquarters in St. Louis, MO features two dog parks and a pet-friendly workplace where many associates bring their pets to work each day.

Pet Care Trust. Kids benefit from exposure to classroom pets in ways that help shape their lives for years to come. But most teachers have limited resources to support classroom animals. That’s why the Pet Care Trust sponsors Pets in the Classroom, an educational grants program that supplies teachers with funding to provide these benefits and promote responsible pet care. Through direct, no-hassle grants, teachers of grades K-8 can obtain financial support to purchase new pets and supplies or supplies for existing classroom pets. Nearly 23,000 grants have been awarded so far, bringing pets into the lives of more than 1.1 million kids.

Petco. Petco and the Petco Foundation work together to support thousands of local animal welfare groups across the country and, through in-store adoption events, we help find homes for more than 350,000 animals every year. Together, we also host multiple in-store fundraising events to help animals in need in our stores’ communities, and we operate a National Pet Food Bank program that has supplied more than 2 million pounds of pet food and litter to help pet parents feed and keep their pets through tough economic times.

At Petland, we believe in doing the right thing for our pets, our customers and the communities in which we serve. Founded in 1967, Petland is proud of its commitment to animal welfare and healthy pets. Through Petland's national Adopt-A-Pet program, stores nationwide have helped find homes for more than 330,000 abandoned or unwanted pets by opening up kennel space, hosting fundraisers and adoption days and providing food and cash donations. Petland's Pets for a Lifetime program ensures that no Petland pet ends up homeless or in a shelter. Addtionally, many Petland stores help support K9 units and service dogs in their communities, and host microchipping clinics and pet food drives. Pet Sitters International. Each year, members of Pet Sitters International (PSI) collect pet food for local animal shelters and rescue groups for PSI’s Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive. PSI, the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters, provides its members with resources and promotional materials to organize local pet-food drives to benefit a local pet organization of the members’ choice. Each year, PSI members collect tens of thousands of pounds of pet food to benefit pets in need. PSI also created Take Your Dog To Work Day® which provides a unique opportunity to celebrate dogs and promote adoptions. Participants enjoy a day of dogs at work and plan special events to raise money and supplies for local animal shelters and pet-rescue groups.

Pet Supplies Plus. Pet Supplies Plus continuously works to reduce the number of euthanized animals by regularly hosting in-store pet adoption events at its more than 250 locations. In an effort to combat the issue on a national scale, the company hosted “Adopt-a-Pet Weekend” in October of 2012, coinciding with National Pet Adoption Month. During the first annual event, Pet Supplies Plus partnered with over 100 rescue organizations at the local level, raised a total of $75,953 in donations and placed 257 happy pets in forever loving homes. In addition to weekly/monthly adoption events, all stores also collect and donate food to agencies year-round.

SafeMade Pet Products. SafeMade Pet Products is proud to sponsor Peace for Puppies. Peace for Puppies was started by Lizzie Penna when she was 12 years-old to raise awareness of substandard breeding facilities. Today, Peace for Puppies helps to support rescues and animal shelters in the Philadelphia, PA area through education, fund-raising events, and towel and supply drives.

Sarasota Parrot Conservatory. Sarasota Parrot Conservatory Inc. has been brightening the lives of pediatric cancer patients to senior citizens with our outreach programs. Since returning from a military deployment to Afghanistan in July 2012 founder Greg Para and many volunteers have been dedicated to using our parrots to bring education and smiles to many. Our work with seniors coupled with our “Parrots for Patients” outreach programs have proven the smile of a five year-old or seventy five year-old are priceless. Our re-homed parrots stay stimulated and our audiences learn fascinating facts about these magnificent creatures we call parrots.

Supreme petfoods.Supreme petfoods manufactures high quality, nutritionally balanced food for a wide range of small mammals, such as rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. The company places a strong emphasis on educating pet owners about the best ways to care for their pets, with the aim of improving health and welfare. Supreme works with shelters and welfare organisations, recently donating food to Majical Minatures rescue centres. Supreme also invests in veterinary education, sponsoring a number of residencies in veterinary universities in the US and Europe and provides training for vets to increase knowledge and veterinary expertise in the care of pocket pets.

The Wet Spot Tropical Fish. The Wet Spot Tropical Fish is committed to being a public resource that promotes proper fishkeeping practices, the importance of treating all animals with respect no matter how small, and emphasizing responsible pet ownership. Regular fish donations come from people who can’t house their aquarium anymore, their fish have outgrown their tank, or their fish are sick and medication can be costly. We are dedicated to avoiding these fish meeting a senseless end and strongly discourage non-native fish dumping. Commitment to the community and our aquatic friends culminates in our effort to donate tanks to schools, charities, and retirements centres.  

World Pet Association.World Pet Association has donated more than $500,000 to Pet Care Trust.  WPA is the first corporate "Patch Reef" level sponsor, donating $25,000 to the Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF).  America’s Family Pet Expo facilitates the adoption of more than 8,000 pets since 1996 and educated over 690,000 pet lovers about responsible pet care.  Additionally, the Pet Care Trust is offered space to host a fundraising fish-toss event and the Pet Expo operates a store, selling donated merchandise where 100% of the profits back Pets in the Classroom raising over $20,000 in just two years.
