Four New Jersey pet care professionals and a national leader in animal advocacy today called on state Senators to support Governor Chris Christie’s conditional veto of Senate Bill 3041. The bill, which would undermine New Jersey’s Pet Purchase Protection Act, is before the Senate tomorrow for a veto override vote.

In a statement issued today, Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) praised New Jersey Governor Christie for his conditional veto of Senate Bill 3041. S3041 would have threatened the sale of dogs and cats by reputable breeders and retailers, and put the government between pets and pet owners.

The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) is responding to a major policy change by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) last week to remove inspection reports and other documents including personal information, such as “regulatory correspondence, research facility annual reports, and enforcement records that have not received final adjudication” from their website.

In a statement issued today, PIJAC President & CEO Mike Bober responded to a new Arizona law implementing consistent statewide standards in regards to the sale of commercially bred dogs and cats in pet stores. This new state-level legislation reverses local sales bans in Phoenix and Tempe as well as a proposed one in Tucson.
